Task Allocation for Minimizing Programs Completion Time in Multicomputer Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Task allocation is one of the biggest issues in the area of parallel and distributed computing. Given a parallel program composed of M communicating modules (tasks) and a multicomputer system of N processors with a specific interconnection network, the problem is how to assign the program modules onto the available processors in the system so as to minimize the entire program completion time. This problem is known to be NP-complete and therefore untractable as soon as the number of tasks and/or processors exceeds a few units. This paper presents a heuristic algorithm, derived from Simulated Annealing, to this problem taking into account several kinds of constraints. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through experimental study on randomly generated instances that being allocated into a multicomputer system of bus topology. Furthermore, the quality of solutions are compared with those derived using the Branch-and-Bound on the same sample problems.

متن کاملCycle Time Optimization of Processes Using an Entropy-Based Learning for Task Allocation
Cycle time optimization could be one of the great challenges in business process management. Although there is much research on this subject, task similarities have been paid little attention. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to optimize cycle time by minimizing entropy of work lists in resource allocation while keeping workloads balanced. The idea of the entropy of work lists comes fr...

متن کاملObjective Analysis in Task Planning and Allocation of Multicomputer Systems
Parallel computing systems with multiple processing elements have the ability to run a set of di erent tasks at the same time. To achieve such a parallelism, these systems use typically an algorithm for task planning and another algorithm for task assignment. The planner algorithm must solve the problem of how many and which tasks remaining in a queue must be executed, how many processors shoul...
